You can understamd his comfusion… I mean, she could totally have married the dragon, poisoned his tea, and “inherited” his riches, gauntlet included… no?
I mean, this *is* Jill.
I never thought of this in previous readthroughs, but I sort of wonder if she would have sold out the party and sided with the dragon if Casper hadn’t bought her that fan/she hadn’t heard the rest of them planning to potentially go back for her. She could have gone either way until she sent up that flare, and right before it she has that moment to pause after the gift…
Then again hiring all the decoy transportation suggests this was always her plan. But who knows.
